CyberGhost is one of the most popular VPN providers 2018 in the USA. The company is now based on a Romanian company with German roots, which according to its own information has 2.5 million registered users.
Like many other VPN’s on the worldwide market, CyberGhost has committed itself to anonymous surfing. The client’s IP address is exchanged on the VPN server, which means that the client surfs anonymously and is protected against hackers and data spying. The data traffic to the VPN server is protected by a VPN tunnel and is also encrypted. This is of great importance, not least when you are on the move in public networks, for example in a wifi. CyberGhost also makes it possible to reach websites blocked at one’s own site. Among other things, you also get an American IP address. It also allows you to access NBC, Netflix, Hulu or CBS and use BitTorrent securely. Note: CyberGhost offers BitCoin payments!
Features of CyberGhost
The CyberGhost VPN originated in Aachen at Mobile Concepts. The Aachen-based company is still involved in the technical implementation of the service. In the support area of the website there are several ways to get answers to questions and problems. Among other things, there is also a section “Help & FAQ”. Compared to other providers, you can’t expect such a fast response. The support works officially only Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 17:00 o’ clock. You are also asked to allow a maximum processing time of 48 hours (without weekends and holidays). In fact, the live chat of the support was offline at the time of our test. From the past, we can also say that the support was able to react within two hours.
We have also tested the support forum during the test, in which the questions are answered reliably, although sometimes a little bit briskly.
Recently, the suscribtion models have changed a litle bit. Unfortunaly, there is no more way to use Cyberghost on a free plan. Of course you could use a litle “work-around” and ask for your money back within the 30-day period. But to be honest, we didnt find any reason to do so. There are 3 different suscribtion models:
- 1 month suscribtion – $10.49 per month – billed monthly
- 6 month suscribtion – $5.90 per month – billed every 6 month
- 24 month suscribtion – $2.90 per month – billed every 2 years
Lets do some math: The best value is of course the 24 month plan. The costs for this plan sum up to $69.60 for the 24 month period. The costs for the 6 month suscribtion sum up to $35.40. So basicly, if you know that you will need the VPN for longer than 6 month, go for the 2 year package right away and save a big deal of money.
The CyberGhost Network
CyberGhost offers an infrastructure of currently 1000+ servers in more than 30 countries. Most of them were active during our test, a few of them have just been serviced. In Moscow, five out of nine were offline. This is just a snapshot.
Most VPN servers are operated in Germany (82). At 52, the number of U. S. servers is also impressive, with New York, Los Angeles, Tampa and Washington at four locations. If one compares the infrastructure of CyberGhost with test winner HideMyAss, then the difference is still big, but CyberGhost has also managed to build up a respectable infrastructure. HideMyAss is represented with 597 servers in 72 nations and can thus provide more than 74,000 IP addresses.
CyberGhost supports the following protocols in the paid packages:
